Going green – it doesn’t have to be all or nothing, and you don’t have to break the bank to do your part to make the world a little greener!

My name is Holly and I am just like a lot of you:  trying my best to be “green” on a limited budget.  PLEASE feel free to send any related questions, comments, and suggestions my way in the comment field below, or by commenting on any entry.   What do you want to reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle?  I’m always up for a challenge!

  1. Hi Holly, I’ve enjoyed browsing your blog. I’m green out of necessity, work is hard to find here and we’re just so damn poor. An old Yankee saying I grew up with was “use it up, wear it out, make do, or do without.” It’s stuck with me my whole life.

I can’t imagine using a paper towel only once, or throwing even a morsel of food out (have dogs for that!) or letting water run, leaving lights on—wouldn’t matter if I were a millionaire, I’d still be cheap! I cut open plastic hand cream tubes, etc., to get the last bit out.

I clean houses, and when I see how wasteful people are it’s sickening. I find perfectly good clothes in garbage cans when they could have gone to a thrift shop (where I get just about anything I need, and that’s not much). I used to work in a restaurant and the amount of food (especially when an animal died for it) made me sick. I buy generic everything, even with coupons name-brand foods are too expensive.

Anyway, you’ve got some great tips here. Nice to e-meet you!

    • Hi Debra – thanks so much for letting me know that you are reading and enjoying my blog! It really means a lot. Like you, I am green out of necessity. I would try to be green anyway, even if I did have extra money lying around, but living paycheck to paycheck is a good motivator to scrimp and save, isn’t it?
Let me know if you have any ideas for topics I should cover – I’m always working on future posts.
Keep up the good, green work!
